Our Story

Shemen Ra’anan comes directly from the land of Israel. The Land of Israel is described in the Bible as, “a land of OLIVE-OIL and honey”

A little known fact is, the first olives were cultivated in Israel. While many associate olives with Italy, Greece, or Spain, those regions got their first olive trees from Israel in ancient times. In fact, the Romans loved Israeli olive oil so much they collected it as taxes, and while we don’t necessarily recommend it, before soap was invented, the Romans would wash themselves using olive oil produced in the same region and using the same process as Shemen Ra’anan.

Shemen Ra’anan Olive Oil - Fit for a king.

The origin of the name Shemen Ra’anan, Hebrew for “Fresh, Luxuriant Oil,” is psalm 92, composed by King David.

The olive oil from Shemen Ra’anan comes from the Holy Land of Israel. Israeli olive oil was used in the Holy Temple, to anoint kings, and graced the table of royal families for centuries. From biblical times through the 20th century, there had not been anything growing on an industrial scale in Israel for almost 2,000 years. Until now….

Located in Israel’s Biblical Heartland, Shemen Ra’anan uses ancient biblical agricultural practices to grow the best olives and produce internationally acclaimed olive oil. The Shemen Ra'anan olives are harvested in a small window of time, from October through December while the olives remain in their prime.

Shemen Ra’anan is a family-owned business dedicated to bringing the absolute finest olive oil from the orchard to your table. It is the olive oil of choice for everyone, from private consumers to top chefs.

Michael D. Farkas, our founder, has been passionate about olive oil for most of his adult life. He first began his foray into the olive oil business nearly two decades ago. 10% of the profits from Shemen Ra'anan will be donated to the Sammy Farkas Foundation, in loving memory of Sammy ‘Yitzchak’ Farkas.

BLESSED LAND = BLESSED PRODUCTS

"A land of wheat and barley, of vines and fig trees and pomegranates, a land of OLIVE TREES and honey..." Deuteronomy 8:8

OLIVE OIL VS. OTHER OILS

Studies suggest that olive oil consumption can help avoid strokes, heart disease, Alzheimer’s disease, diabetes, osteoporosis, and even cancer. There are numerous other health benefits, but most importantly, when you choose extra virgin olive oil you avoid the health risks associated with consuming vegetable seed oils and other low-quality cooking oils.
